You are SO right about Blackboard--it is clunky, slow, and lacking in several basic capabilities. My university uses it, but I am actively looking for better alternatives. Thanks for these tips!

We are doing a project this summer that involves setting up a WordPress blog to function as Course Management. I hope you'll be able to follow the progress here: http://smdi.blogs.brynmawr.edu/ . I'm asking my students to reflect on their work as they go, so that we'll get not just the how, but the why (which is way more important, in my mind).
