Virtual White Board

I was wondering when something like this was going to become available: an online white-board. You can sign up for a free account, send people the url and anyone with access to a web browser can watch as you update the space. Think of it as the web’s virtual chalkboard. The interface is a bit clunky, but it works. If you are teaching an online course I can see several possible uses for this. Although outside of that???

I have a SmartBoard in my classroom. When I first looked at this website (thanks for the link by the way), I thought “What a great way to let parents in on what we are doing in class. They could just go to the website and see what we’re working on right then.” Then I looked at it some more and tried to decide if it could work that way. I don’t think it could because of it being web based. With the SmartBoard, when I pick up a pen to write it writes over the webpage, not actually on it. I could use the mouse and write in the box on the page, but that would kind of defeat the purpose of the SmartBoard. Maybe they’ll make a plug-in sometime that would work with the SmarBoard (or other IWB) technology. Then I could see it being more useful for me.
