Stanford University has launched a blog directory, a list of students, faculty, alumni, and student groups with blogs. While the list is pretty short (I imagine there are many more Stanford “community members” who blog than this) a couple of things about the list strike me as interesting. First, that it is conceived not just as a list of blog names, but tagged and categorized, obviously done by someone who understands how knowledge is changing. But second and perhaps more important is the sense that while Stanford might not be endorsing the content of any one of these blogs, they are certainly promoting the idea of blogging for those in the academic community.

Hi Dave,
Your post about the Stanford blog list made me wonder whether you might be the right person to respond to the questions I’ve posed about school-wide blogging, here: http://www.ericmacknight.com/wordpress/?p=97.
It seems to me that as blogging becomes more widespread in schools we are going to face some significant structural and organizational challenges, and I haven’t seen anyone addressing them yet. But maybe I’ve missed something. I’d love to hear your take on this.
Thanks, and thanks for your always interesting and useful posts. You’re at the top of my ‘Education’ guide in my rss reader.
Cheers,
Eric
