Restore old Documents
Have you ever edited a document, saved it, and then wished you could go back and change it? A reader sent this tip in: Versomatic allows you to retrieve old versions without hacking any code or accessing system files. I have not used it, as I run daily backups of documents, but if you don’t have this type of set-up, Versomatic might be worth a look. It costs $39.99 (no educational discount), which seems a bit pricey to me. But if you can’t wait for the new Mac OS X (Leopard), which will have this feature built in—say you are writing a dissertation now—this might be worth checking out.(Sorry PC folks, this is Mac only, if someone knows similar apps for a PC post them in the comments.)
Update: As reader co2 notes below, there is a PC version.

They do have a PC version as well. I did buy this software (a little pricey) and even though it’s a version 1.0 product, it has a lot of potential. I too run daily backups, but there have been times I”ve done several changes to documents within a day and wished I still had a version from a few minutes ago.

I contacted the developer about an educational discount and they have just created one. Below is a snippet from the email I received with the educational coupon code for those of you that are interested.
“I just created an “Educational Discount Coupon Program” for all our products. Its good for new purchases starting December 1, 2006. At least that is when we’ll add links from our website, etc. It will extend a 30% discount off of SRP to students and educators on all our products.
Versomatic is normally $49.99 so the educational discount will be 30% to equal $34.99. Our online store’s quantity discount matrix can also be applied to the discount coupon at the time of order which could lower the per unit cost significantly as well. Just go to our online store and at the checkout screen enter coupon code: CPN5440706199.”
