Yep, They all help increase our good friend Steve’s bankroll. But honestly, Apple makes great laptop and together with OSX its a match made in heaven. I am a recent convert to Mac and i am loving it.
Yes, it is amazing that they were able to take a picture with all of those Macs turned on at once, and not a single one randomly shut down.
Apple makes a nice laptop, but quality counts. I’m growing a bit disillusioned.

I can say that mine has never randomly shut down. This seems to be related to MacBookPros only, and the first gen ones at that.
i love my MacBook, but like many folks, I’ve experienced the dreaded and utterly random shutdowns (once every two or three days, at entirely unpredictable times). I think it might be telling that I like the machine enough to put up with it, and it’s too important to give back over to Apple for the 2 weeks it takes to get the repair (and even then, reports abound of the service not fully resolving the problem).
So… add the MacBook, otherwise fine machine that it is, to the list of computers that Apple clearly has some quality control and/or design issues with.
(They also have some customer service issues… it’s not right that, when faced with something that seems to be a large–recall worthy–mistake on their end, that owners shouldn’t be apart from the machine that long–either a replacement or loaner at minimum. I’m a university prof, and giving up my computer for a two weeks just isn’t an option.)

Have you tried the academic help line, I have had problems with the general help line in the past, but for whatever reason got much better service on the educational one. For what its worth the problem seems to be related to one series of motherboards, and I know of several people who are now getting their’s replaced.
