Too many faculty members do not manage their mail unless you consider a single humongoid inbox as "managing." Most of my technical support has nothing to do with technical problems; I spend most of my time teaching people how to use e-mail or explaining concepts. It's very easy to be overwhelmed by e-mail if you do not have any idea how it works or how to use it as a tool. Please...for your sanity (and your IT guy's), digest this helpful posting and make e-mail a tool instead of a stumbling block.
