Getting Rid of Caps Lock

I have for a while wanted to re-map my caps lock key, get rid of it, make it something more useful. While I found several options, some free, some paid, none seemed perfect or bug proof . . . until . . .Today I noticed that in system preferences if you click keyboard and mouse, and select the keyboard tab, there is a button on the bottom right called “modifer keys. . .” If you click this it allows you to change Caps Lock, Control, Option and/or Command. Anyone notice this before? or is this new with a mac update? Regardless, no more weird finger manipulations to reach control, now “caps lock” does the trick. (so useful for Mail Act-on.)

It’s been there a long time–at least since 10.4. It’s not the result of an update.

    Man wish I would have known that earlier . . . .

I never knew that before either. Good tip!

That’s pretty cool. It’s not available under 10.3.9 though. But on my Macbook I can finally put the control key in its rightful place beside the A key. :-)
